ESIPSE is a multidisciplinary project dealing with thermodynamics, mechanical engineering, machine vision and process automation. The ESIPSE consortium was formed in order to address these topics. The fundamental results obtained within the project are listed below:
- In-depth knowledge of the process thermodynamic behaviour within the aluminium extrusion process.
- Prototype of the mechanical positioning system for the measurement sensor package.
- Development of a thermal shrinkage model and of a measurement system prototype capable of making a prediction of the final profile dimensions based on measurements taken in a heated state at the exit of the press.
- Development of a working prototype quality control system capable of making significant energy and work-force savings in the aluminium extrusion process.
